Emma Nokes
Creative Team, Sound Designer
Emma is currently completing her fourth and final year of the BFA Technical Production Program. Her role as the Sound Designer for this rendition of Alfred Jarry’s Ubu Roi comes with digging into her musical experience after entering her first year at the U of A in a Bachelor of Music in Clarinet, after years of playing in high school bands and musicals. Previous design work includes sound designing for last year’s BLT rendition of Cock by Mike Bartlett, Directed by Brett Dahl, and working as a sound designer assistant for sound designer Matt Skopyk in this past summer’s performances from Freewill Shakespeare Company’s; A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Dir. David Horak) and Measure for Measure (Dir. Nancy McAlear). Ubu Roi was created with unique forms of collaboration that Emma experienced first hand starting from the first meetings with co-designer T. Erin Gruber (Set/Costumes/Lights) and her assistants and director David Woroner all the way to the opening of the show. Beyond receiving her degree, Emma’s plan is to continue working in the technical field and to eventually land a role as a Head of Department or Technical Director. She hopes that you will enjoy this show as much as she did designing the sound for it, you’re in for a wild ride!
