David Horak*

Actor, Pere Ubu

David Horak has worked throughout Canada and the United States as a director, actor, and educator and was appointed the Artistic Director of the Freewill Shakespeare Festival in 2020. David has directed five productions for the festival: Comedy of Errors, The Winter’s Tale, Much Ado About Nothing, Macbeth and most recently A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Some other previous productions he has directed include Fun Home (Plain Jane Theatre), Lend Me A Tenor (The Mayfield), Stupid Fucking Bird, Fatboy, Burning Bluebeard and Terry and the Dog (Edmonton Actors Theatre), The Skin of Our Teeth (Bright Young Things), and right before the pandemic closed down theatres in 2020: Every Brilliant Thing (The Citadel Theatre). Recent acting credits include Tiny Bear Jaw’s Cleave, and Wildside Productions of Small Mouth Sounds, 10 Out Of 12 and Passion Play. He has also taught acting, directing and movement for over 15 years at such places as The University of Alberta, Concordia University of Edmonton, Red Deer University, The Citadel Theatre’s Foote Theatre School and MacEwan University. David holds BFA (Acting) and MFA (Directing) degrees from the University of Alberta and is a proud member of Canadian Actors Equity (CAEA), AEA, ACTRA, the Association of Theatre Movement Educators (ATME) and The National Alliance of Acting Teachers, USA.
