Ben Smith

Ben is a dedicated performer, director, and educator who has primarily worked in the New Brunswick theatre community, located on the traditional lands of the Wolastoqiyik, Mi’kmaq and Peskotomuhkati peoples. As the founding Artistic Director of Impulse Productions, Smith has worked with notable organizations including Theatre New Brunswick, The New Brunswick Drama Festival, and The Fredericton Playhouse Inc. In 2019, Smith served as President and Interim Artistic Director for Theatre St. Thomas, the flagship theatre company of St. Thomas University, and became the first student to create and complete an interdisciplinary degree in artistic direction, which led to a sold-out director's thesis in New Brunswick’s capital. For the past three years, Smith has collaborated with Broadway artists Tony LePage and Justin Matthew Sargent on Sweet Dreams, a modern-day musical adaptation of William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, set to the timeless music of Air Supply. In 2020, he directed the musical's first staging alongside Alisa Palmer, Michael Doherty, and Tania Breen. In 2021, Smith relocated to Treaty Six territory (colonial name Edmonton, AB) with his partner Courtney and their feline companion, Logan.
